Ong on Black Homeownership Patterns in Los Angeles

CNK Director Paul Ong was mentioned in a Los Angeles Times article regarding one of the first single Black female homeowners in the Pacific Palisades in the 1960s.

By 1970, Ong’s data analysis revealed that about 2% of all homeowners in Los Angeles County were Black women. Usually, however, most of the Black female homeowners had a “man’s name on the mortgage” at some point. Ong points out that “single Black female homeowners were very rare.”
