COVID-19 and LA’s At-Risk Workers

April 1, 2020/0 Comments/in Publications/by Silvia R. González

Our new report in partnership with the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Initiative and Ong & Associates, found that neighborhoods with significant Latino and Asian-American populations in Los Angeles County are particularly vulnerable to economic uncertainty during the COVID-19 pandemic due to workforce concentration in service and retail jobs that have been severely affected during the public health crisis.

“Entire communities are in a precarious financial situation, weakening the economic base in areas that already have a history of under-investment and limited opportunities,” said Paul Ong, lead author and director of the Center for Neighborhood Knowledge, “Now is the time for elected officials to ensure that low-wage workers have a safety net in this time of crisis to ensure the safety and well-being of all communities.”
